PET PORTRAITS
I enjoy creating unique portraits of pets. In addition to incorporating lots of colors and patterns, I hide messages and symbols in the paintings that are personal to the owners and the pet, so the images become a puzzle as well as a portrait. All portraits involve acrylic paint on durable thick gesso board.
“Eartha” – 24”x 24” acrylic
One of Eartha’s loving owners was once a dancer who appeared on stage with the legendary Eartha Kitt. To honor their friendship, he named his cat after her. As his treasured pet neared the end of her life, this portrait honored the cat’s namesake by incorporating many symbols of Eartha Kitt’s career. And if you look among the Catwoman masks in the background, you will see the names of Eartha’s owners hidden in the strings.
“Angel” – 24”x 24” acrylic
A Yorkshire terrier named Angel was very special. Her portrait shows her as she is seen by her owner, her sweet angel!
“Sweet Pea” – 24”x 24” acrylic
As a puppy barely a few pounds, Sweet Pea appeared to be the happiest little dog in the world. This is reflected in a graphic portrait filled with symbols of love for the owners’ new pet. (Those flowers in the background are sweet peas.)
“Chaser” – 24”x 24” acrylic
Chaser’s pet parent has a unique vocation. He chases storms and tornadoes. Chaser’s name fits him because he accompanies his owner on these missions. The movie Twister is a favorite of Chaser’s family, including the scene with the flying cow, so that image is worked into Chaser’s portrait.
Three Dogs – 24”x 24” acrylic (each)
Portraits of “Jubilee,” “Martini” and “Chiclet” contain hidden symbols that speak directly to their personalities and the origins of their names.
